We stayed down at that end for the second half. Baird's initial touch from the corner hit someone on the ankle (a Forfar player I think) and went in - don't think Lyness was going to save it anyway, but after the deflection he had no chance. |
Looked like it hit Dave McKay, nothing he could do about it. _________________ Hope he's got plenty Rovers action to comment on tonight.... |

Highlights show what on another day with a different ref might have been two other possible penalties. One for, one against. Our one looked marginal to me.
However none of this matters now.
We will have to up our game a fair bit for the two final games but Vinnie's water is now in full production mode, so we're in with a chance. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

I thought the effort and workrate were really good. The best part was everybody seemed to muck in. There was little or no hiding. It was much better than a lot of games that I saw this season. Wedderburn is just slow, rather than lazy or sloppy, but Forfar players didn't half get the jitters with the ball and punt it when he was running at them! Nisbet looked hungry as hell, but was nearly always outnumbered. The way it panned out for this game, that was okay, but we will need more of his goals for QOS - even if one player could just get forward now and then to support him. I didn't feel too nervous after the sending off and the penalty - that was the real turning point. Forfar were so good at parking the bus, that they should have driven the buses to the ground! It wasn't Liverpool v Barcelona, in terms of good football, entertainment - or goals, but it is "job done" for Part 1.
I haven't read any game reports yet for QOS v Montrose, but my guess is that 5-0 yesterday might flatter Queens. Montrose might have had a bad game-plan or something, but I doubt if they were to play that fixture again if it would be anything like that scoreline. Hopefully we will find out next season! It is certaintly not the kind of performance that got the Doonhammers where they are. We have dished out a few gubbings ourselves this season - and they did lose in Montrose.
I'll be there on Wednesday. Plenty Rovers goals to take to Dumfries please - and no more "Baird moments"! |

The problem is QotS now have a new manager. All those players who were thinking that regardless of where Queens finish the season that Naismith won't be keeping them on are now thinking 'I've got a clean slate with Johnston and I have four games to prove myself and get a contract and a wage for the next twelve months." _________________ Fantalk~Often wrong but never in doubt |

They're not the Doonhammers, they're the doonhamers, as in going doon hame for the weekend after a week's work in Glasgow.
I hope some read this because I don't think I could take another 6 or 7 days with a constant reference to the Doonhammers. |

Funnily enough, here's an excerpt from this Wed's QotS programme on the subject.
"Their nick-name is the “Doon Hamers” and is taken in regard to the geological position to Dumfries, as when almost everywhere else in Scotland that QotS can possibly travel to they must afterwards return down to home or to be more accurate doon hame" _________________ Competitive goals: Vaughan 19, Easton 11, Hamilton 10, Smith 9, Stanton 7, Mullin 4, Connolly 3, O'Reilly 3, Rudden 3, S Brown 2, Dick 1, Gullan 1, Masson 1, Matthews 1, Millen 1, Mitchell 1, Murray, Watson 1, OG's 1, |

And of course, that should read 'geographical' position as opposed to geological.

Pendant alert - is it possible to have a geological position (yes I imagine if referring to rock or mineral deposits) but should it be geographical position in this context? For being a pedant I will buy you a beer in the HB next time I see you there 🤓
I see no thread for the next two games and feel I might jinx it! _________________ Here Wee go again |

Baird was constantly as Matthews during a large part of the 2nd half. I read Baird' s comments and he says Matthews was speaking about someone not on the park. I can only assume he is talking about the boy who was sent off. |

If Matthews has said something out of order, he should be dealt with accordingly.
However, until Baird is prepared to substantiate his allegations, it sounds very much like sour grapes from an angry wee man. _________________ Dougie Hill
