After Round 8:

Norway is on 10 and can reach 13 points max (@SCO)
Georgia is on 7 and out with a max of 13 (vSCO and @SPA)

Scoring was like poking a rabid bear with a stick.
Thankfully France have taken their foot off the gas 2nd half, cruise control for them means we will avoid an embarrassment |

4-1 going on for goodness knows how many more.
France is a major step up even from Spain.
First two goals were far too easily conceded for this level of game and opposition.
Lessons being learnt, hopefully. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

Pumped by England, a defeat in Seville and then rodgered by France. I hope we can get back to winning aways against Norway and Georgia and finish strongly. Chuffed we're through though with games to spare but part of our good run of wins would have been the glowing confidence oozing through the team, a couple of defeats (friendlies or not) could hamper that. Any reason why we decided to play a friendly against France in the first place? |

Steve Clarke wanted to play a game against the best that was available on the free date. France is currently ranked second best in the world and similar to Scotland had already qualified and had a free date. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

While there were a couple of poor goals lost and they were well beaten in the end, on the more positive side, this was in no way our strongest team, a number of debutants and fringe players being given a wee chance to stake a claim. It was a bit more positive than the England game but at the same time playing these three games in a row should help keep their feet on the ground and determined to finish the group matches on a high note. Surely they all will have learned from the experience and will take measures to deal with the slackness issues. _________________ He's no' hairy mary he's the Rovers' little fairy!

Slightly bemused by SC's claim that we want to measure ourselves against the best teams, but then plays a starting eleven largely made up of bench squad players. Not sure what McGinn, McGregor, Gunn etc learn from watching rather than playing them?
However , some of the fringe players ,who turn up for matches then warm the bench, did deserve to show what they can do.
Be interesting to see how many of yesterday's team play against Georgia.
Ps Not sure why this friendly is in a thread about Euro Qualifiers! |

Well done to the National Team to come back twice from behind, where there was nothing to play for.
Now go and show Norway that our qualification over them was not just down to luck! |

A draw was a fair result. Georgia's star man was dangerous throughout. The rest fell down clutching head/ ankle/ arm etc at every opportunity.
Not sure if this draw torpedoes our chance of being second seeds at the Euros or not.🤔
Looking forward to Sunday at Hampden ! |

As I understand it, Spain’s goal difference advantage means we would have to win and have Spain lose to go top and get seeded that way.
Alternately, if we beat Norway by 2, we could be in the best 2nd group top finishers (assumes Austria get their second, which would be if Belgium wins, and we get Pot 2…if Austria wins their group via Belgium a loss or tie, then we get seeded in Pot 2 too.) |

Thanks, Tx.
I had discounted our chances of overtaking Spain, even before yesterday 's results. It was if we could still be the best placed second team,to which I was alluding.
I now see that Austria are in pole position, currently, but ,apart from ourselves , Denmark or Slovenia have a chance and they play each other this evening. However, they are in a six team group and, presumably, the results against the bottom team in their group are discounted.
Our first objective is to beat Norway, rather than over -emphasis on the margin of our victory! |
