Back from Starks, after what wasn't quite a five goal thriller! Thrilling start, right enough, but Morton scoring seemed to affect us more than it should. Mind you, how can you play flowing football when the opposition foul at every opportunity?
But Callum Smith's goal was worth the wait! Looking forward to seeing it again in the
highlights.
IM handling Ethan Ross carefully , otherwise he would have been on from the start. Far too clever a ball player for the Morton cloggers.
Not sure what we do with LV. He's still a player and took his penalty well ( not put off by being up against Jamma), but not sure he suits the formation we were playing.
Very pleased that Jack Hamilton got off the mark ( although he didn't get the credit initially) but he must cut out things like kicking the ball out of play after the whistle has gone. A yellow card when he had already been given a last warning after persistent fouling. It restricted him in subsequent challenges. Must learn fast.
Disappointed that Jamma was booed by sections of the crowd. He would take it, with his experience, but not classy towards a fine keeper for The Rovers. |

Not a great game by any stretch of the imagination not helped by industrial Morton and a ref that really didn,t have a clue
However 3 points in the pokey which is all that matters
Crowd of 3041 suggests folk are buying into the new investors and everything thats going on at the club _________________ THERES FIVE OF ME |

Agree with most of that.
We were electric…for 1st 15mins. We were then practically non existent in terms of attack until we scored the winner, middle part of that game was tough on the eyes and I’m elated we found that extra gear again to get the win because in all honesty, when it went 2-2 I thought only one team was capable of winning the game and it wasn’t us!
If we are getting a fully fit and confident Ethan Ross back then it’s like a new signing. Smiths goal was individual brilliance and worthy of winning any game.
Byrne looked okay considering lack of football, Millen and Brown returning both huge positives!
Solid if unspectacular start to the season but plenty to be happy about |

Like others game spoiled by over aggressive Morton lads and lame referee who really needed to show a red card to their centre forward for kicking Dick on the head.
Brown changed the game and Ross was excellent too. Ross will be kicked a lot in this league - hope he can withstand that.
Fantastic goal by Smith but great save from MaxDonald on the penalty. Should of course have been 4-2 - any one of my auld git mates could have been hospitalised due to refereeing decisions and outright mortonian violence.
Toilets in old main stand still a disgrace.

Certainly not a classic, but there's no chance of seeing good football against Morton. A superb winning goal in front of the South Stand which made it all worthwhile. Absolutely delighted to see that cheating, diving, thug Quitongo go off injured after a shocking challenge on Liam Dick, he knew what he was doing and it appeared to be after the whistle was blown for a foul elsewhere.
I'm glad that IM,in his post-match interview, reckons Kev should've saved the first goal and told him so. He's a young guy with not a lot of first team experience, but hopefully under the watchful eye of Robbie Thomson, will grow in stature.
Great win Rovers. |

Agree with most of the comments so far.
First 15 minutes we were good, passing well, supporting each other and two well made goals had us in easy street.
NOT
We let Morton dominant from then on. Goodness knows why Morton players have to be so aggressive and dirty thugs, when they had a far better game plan than us. Passing well, players playing wide on both flanks and retained possession but thankfully their final ball was poor or we did mange to intercept.
Poor midfield, poor at keeping possession.
We had the same old tactics (FAILED) and sometimes pathetic goalkeeper kick outs to the same failings as last season, school boy mass all mobbed on the one wing?????
A lot to do yet.
But THREE welcome points |

The Rovers actually scored before Jack Hamilton got the opener but nobody noticed apart from Jack Hamilton and a Ball Boy.
Have a look at The Pictures and see 'The goal that got away! |

Interesting pics and highlights.
Murrays header does look well over the line given the position of the defenders feet.
Their defense is static for our opener, the penalty is definitely soft but Vaughan's leg does appear to catch the leg of the defender and there's contact, whether there is enough or any actual intent who can say but it's certainly soft.
The defending and marking for Muirhead's header is criminal, and the defense of the set piece for the equaliser is if anything even worse. Good save by Jammer from Mullin's pen, some will say lucky but it's a bit of instinct to raise the right leg a bit.
Quality run and finish from Smith. _________________ Competitive goals: Vaughan 19, Easton 11, Hamilton 10, Smith 9, Stanton 7, Mullin 4, Connolly 3, O'Reilly 3, Rudden 3, S Brown 2, Dick 1, Gullan 1, Masson 1, Matthews 1, Millen 1, Mitchell 1, Murray, Watson 1, OG's 1, |

The defender Waters legs are both behind the line, but in front of the ball, so the ball is definitely over the line, but you can make your own mind up when you see photo number 5 HERE. |

Soft doesn't cover it - an absolute dive from Louis there, any contact was initiated by him, and not the Morton defender.
But what comes around goes around (or is it the other way round?) - I don't think any Rovers fan will be persuaded that Ngwenya fouled Quitongo for Morton's last minute penalty winner at Cappielow last season.
Poetic justice |

Tut tut SDR .... two wrongs don't make a right. I was equally incensed at Quitongos late dive at Cappielow last season but that dive from Vaughan yesterday, which only became apparent from the highlights as it was impossible to see from the opposite end, was pretty poor. It also set the tone for what became an agricultural approach from Morton and a bad tempered affair and I can now see why.
Worry is that referees review and share this sort of stuff and Vaughan has marked his card for future games. He needs to cut out the petulance, moaning and going over too easily from his game and get back to what he is good at.
I'm surprised to hear some including the manager criticise Dabrowski for Muirheads header. Being directly behind it I thought at the time it went in like a bullet and was unstoppable.
Great to see Hamilton get off the mark with a neat flick finish and Smith's winner was a thing of beauty.
We've not really clicked yet, havent fielded a full strength side and are four from six so cant really complain. |

You can see the shadow of the ball is well over the line. The way the other shadows are falling that would indicate the ball was over the line too. |
