The sending off was borderline, I’m fine with the decision mainly because of how cynical it was. If it’s an honest attempt to play the ball or something and is misjudged by a split second… fine with a yellow but in this case, defender knows he has been done…knows Hamilton is bearing down on goal so blatantly grabs a handful of shirt, for that he deserved to go
Easton at the end? One or two pointing it out but come on, who here wouldn’t have liked to do the same after them celebrating in front of our fans like they had won the league after scoring!? It’s a wee bit of handbags, a get it up you, a wee bit naughty but even if spotted, it’s a booking, nothing more, hardly a deadly assault! |

It's a soft red about that there's no doubt but Tizzard gives the ref a decision to make, if like some seem to think (not me btw) that Fox could have got to him in time then Tizzards foul is even more stupid than 1st seems. Perhaps the Red card is as much for his crass stupidity.
We played better against 11 than 10 (nothing new there), after an initial 10 minutes QP got organised and went very compact. We failed to open them up, stretch them out and make the extra man count. So poor were we you had to wonder who was a man short them or us.
Had it stayed 11 a piece I reckon we'd have had a more comfortable afternoon. _________________ Competitive goals: Vaughan 19, Easton 11, Hamilton 10, Smith 9, Stanton 7, Mullin 4, Connolly 3, O'Reilly 3, Rudden 3, S Brown 2, Dick 1, Gullan 1, Masson 1, Matthews 1, Millen 1, Mitchell 1, Murray, Watson 1, OG's 1, |

Also, QP were quite pleasing on the eye at times. They are a very good side _________________ Two pints prick |

OK, for my tuppence worth on the various talking points:
Very harsh red card for the QP Centre half. Did he deny a clear scoring opportunity (as the rule states) ? No, he didn't. Yellow card only - we'd have been screaming injustice had it been Murray or Watson.
QP is an excellent passing team, and will do well. But we are too, plus we have that dig and strength of mentality that lifts us above them.
Our goals came late - testament to the management, our team's mentality, our fitness and calmness under pressure, not least generated from impatience in sections of the crowd.
Yes, both goals lost were from howlers - 'keeper for the first, McGill and Watson for the second. But we're not perfect, far from it, and we'll learn from the experience and get better. If we all show patience in supporting the team' s development, that is.
We've already shown we can win in different ways - a battle here, an ugly watch there, but then turn on the silky stuff....(by the way, who'll win QP v Morton? 😬
It's a very promising start, let's see how far we can go 👍⚽😎 |

What does Law 12 say…in part:
“CAUTIONABLE OFFENCES
A player is cautioned if guilty of:
-commits any other offence which interferes with or stops a promising attack except where the referee awards a penalty kick for an offence which was an attempt to play the ball or for a challenge for the ball”
SENDING-OFF OFFENCES
A player, substitute or substituted player who commits any of the following offences is sent off:
-denying a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent whose overall movement is towards the offender's goal by an offence punishable by a free kick (unless as outlined below)
DENYING A GOAL OR AN OBVIOUS GOAL-SCORING OPPORTUNITY (DOGSO)
Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball or a challenge for the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.), the offending player must be sent off.
Where a player denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by a handball offence, the player is sent off wherever the offence occurs (except a goalkeeper within their penalty area).
The following must be considered:
-distance between the offence and the goal
-general direction of the play
-likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball
-location and number of defenders”
So it really isn’t that clear, because while there was great distance, the direction of play was goalward, he would have control of the ball as he was past the Defender, the one other Defender was roughly level and wide. If it was a “promising attack”, a yellow is correct, with a direct kick for the “push”. |

One last point on Saturday's match.
Would we all agree we've seen (potentially) the next generation's great Scottish international goalkeeper in action? What a talent 16yr old Callan McKenna is!!! |

I just wanted to add to my earlier post where I forgot to mention the outstanding performance of the very young Queen's Keeper.
Young Callan McKenna is ONLY 16 YEARS OLD! I have to say I have never seen such a confident performance between the posts from one so young in all my years of watching Scottish Football. What an absolute find for QP.
Will he be the youngest Keeper to play first team professional football in Scotland I wonder? I know the famous John Thomson signed for Celtic in 1926 at age 17, but I don't think even he played for the Celtic first team until he was 18. Has anyone out there heard of a younger Keeper than Callan in a first team jersey?
P.S. For the younger posters: John Thomson came from Bowhill Cardenden, and was signed by Celtic in 1926 from Wellesley Juniors. He became the Celtic first choice Keeper and also Scotland's first choice Keeper. Sadly, he died during a football match at Ibrox after he was involved in a collision with the Rangers player Sam English in 1931 aged only 22. John Watt (famous Fife poet and song writer) wrote a very moving song about Thomson's young life. It's worth a search for a listen.
P.P.S. and no. Before the smart asses amongst you ask........ I never saw him play! |

I would agree that his blocks and stops were decent, as you say. On that measure, you could also say he could have perhaps got to Callum Smith's header had he been that bit quicker across his box.
But what I was meaning was more about his confidence and all-round performance for one so young. As HR says, has a 16-year-old ever played in goals at full-time professional level? I doubt it, but if there has been another so young, it'd be hard to imagine a more mature and commanding show.
His positioning, his command of the box, his distribution, his handling, were all top-notch.On top of that, brave, confident, a good organiser (even bellowing at his own 24-year-old centre half), the boy will go far if he keeps that up. If so, Scotland's No.1 before he turns 21 is my bet. And a 7-figure transfer fee by then, too. |

I seem to remember Queen of the South fielding a 16-year-old a year or two ago and we failed to score against him. |

I’m sure the late great Ronnie Simpson (Hibs, Celtic etc) started with Queens Park at the age of 14.
No that’s not a misprint😎
Just looked it up to confirm my memory is still ok.
Ronnie Simpson started his senior career with amateur club Queen's Park; he was selected by their first team in 1945, aged just 14 years and 304 days. This made him the youngest person to represent a Scottish league club, although it was an unofficial record due to the suspension of normal competitive football during the Second World War.
He was 15 when he made his first Scottish Football League appearance in August 1946. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

Wow thanks Embow. I didn't know that. It makes me think, Queens Park must be starting their Goalie training at around four years old |
