The only way I could see is to phase summer football in over a five year period. Fore example if a decision was taken now to move from the current August-May scenario from the beginning of next season I'd suggest:-

2010/2011 - September - June
2011/2012 - October - July
2012/2013 - November - August
2013/2014 - December - September
2014/2015 - January - October
2015/2016 - February - November

Have 1 short season, play everyone home and away then stop,
18 games. From August to December have an extra midweek game every month so you could finish before Xmas.

Start new season in April.

Dont know how feasible this is but why not play Saturday/midweek at the beginning of the season, close down November-February then Saturday/Midweek for the rest of the season

Anyway as it stands football is run by the TV companies who determine when games are played, days, time.Look no furher than the SPL.For that reason I really cant see any changes happening

I think there should be a winter shutdown lasting around 3-4 weeks during the season rather than have summer football. The winter is depressing enough as it is so why take football away. I remember there used to be a shutdown a few seasons ago, not sure why they removed it.

When would you have the break though? Can't guarantee when we'd get the frost etc. Anyway, its us spectators that keep the game alive as it is.

this winters weather aint exactly regular, in recent years we have been having alot milder winters, therfore i disagree with summer football,
life without football in the winter would be alot more boring

I agree RAITHFOREVA that this winter has been exceptionally bad and that normally it is usually milder/wetter and windier but financially it makes sense to play football in summer when floodlights are not needed for matches or training sessions, the pitches would be in better conditions and it would be unlikely that many matches would be postponed, which, as you say, is boring.

Summer football and a 16 team SPL is a must for the good of Scottish football.

How do we do it though, have one season only half the length so we are ready to start again March?

How do we get round the WC?
