Spain or the Argies I reckon, if it was not for thier looney manager they would be my favorites. _________________ Goal Count 10/11

Thats what I think too. Argentina would be my favourites, but there is no guarantee that he will pick the right squad let alone the right team on the park. |

For the first time in my life(bearing in mind I'm only 24), I genuinely cannot get excited about a World Cup finals.
Probably the main reason is because Scotland aren't there... but then again, after the glorious failures of not making 2002 and 2006, I should be used that by now!
Another thing that makes me sick - and I know us Scottish folk say it before every tournament that our neighbours are in - is the English media.
Like everyone in Scotland, I am SICK of hearing about 1966 and all that bullcrap! That, coupled with the fact that England have yet another easy group, and most media pundits in this country already have England in the Final - more than 2 weeks before a ball has even been kicked!
I don't usually buy into this whole childish 'We Hate England' mentality - but this time I don't really have a choice.
Thank God I'm going on holiday when the games are on. Chances are the only games I'll watch are the Final and the ones involving England - so that I can cheer on the team that England are facing
I can't stand it when the BBC/ITV use half-time of EVERY game to spend at least 10 minutes talking about England - even AFTER England have been knocked out! Do these pea-brained halfwits actually realise that there are 32 teams in the World Cup and not just 1?
Anyone know where I can get one of those fancy Anyone But England t-shirts? I'm choking to have one in my wardrobe _________________ Oh no no no Geordie Munro,

I was quite surprised to see John Motson on the One Show last night, and when asked about how he thought England would do he said something like:
"We should win the group really. That would give us Ghana or Serbia, who we'll hopefully get past. Then it would be the French in the quarters, who are in disarray at the moment. Which would give us a semi final against Brazil...who in all probability we are going to get a bit of a hammering from."
Obviously there are many many variables in that, but I could see it going that way to be honest. And I was somewhat surprised he thought they would get beat by Brazil, as the general English viewpoint is that they will beat everybody. Clearly he thinks they won't. I don't either, but then I could see them not getting that far. |

KBID - You are spot on.
Mexico could be drawing 3-3 with South Africa at half time in the first match of the tournament, there could have been 2 men for either side sent off in the first half, along with a stone wall penalty turned down, 2 shots cleared of the line, and the 2 managers of each team having a barmy on the touchline and both being sent to the stands.....
yet, it would only get 3 mins analysis, becuase now we go over live to the England training camp for team news, and news that Wayne Rooney has fallen in the shower and broke his toenail, and may be a doubt.... along with a summary of what the players have eaten for their tea, when they will next be training, abd their travel plans for the next day to head to the game vs USA..... BLAH BLAH........ BLAH!!!!!
If im watching the Africa Mexico game, i dont wanna have that pish rammed down my throat! fair enough, at the end of the match, after a full analysis of the game, then schedule a 10 mins slot on looking forward to saturdays games!!!!!! Its the World Cup - there are another 31 teams! Not just England!
Edited myself to remove bad language!

They just don't get it, do they, it is because of all their Engerland waffle that the majority of Scots, Irish and Welsh all want them knocked out, it is not so much the team, in fact I don't mind watching players that we all know pitting their skills against other countries, but the Engerland media going on and on and on about what they had for breakfast, how they spent their relaxation time, what WILL happen when we beat this next lot and who we will play in the semi-final, it all absolutely sickens me, and many others I suspect. When any of the other UK teams are competing in tournaments (not very often it has to be said) I always want them to do well but when it is Engerland I can't wait for them to be on their way home. |

can see Argentina winning despite their manager.
Wont be supporting England but those that bleat on about Anyone but England get as tiresome as the supposed overhyping of England. In general the more sensible english pundits seem to realise that they have a very slim chance of winning and that the semis would be an overacheivment. |

I don't know if I fall into the category of people that Markinch Rover calls "those that bleat on about Anyone but England", but if I do then I am sorry that I come across as "tiresome" but I would ask, who are those "more sensible english pundits" that have given England a very slim chance and that getting to the semi's would be an over achievement, I must have missed them. I think MR that before this World Cup has really got going you will find that it is not people like me that are "tiresome" but those that go and on about Engerland that are really the "tiresome" folk. I did say that I have no problem with the Engerland team and I would not even bother going into the camp of those that say "Anyone but England", but the English media/pundits are the real tiresome people involved in all of this. |

As a Scotsman I don't share this view, but I would speculate that the reason there is a huge English bias in the media which turns us against them, is largely because they view themselves as the English media, and not the British media. Scotland and Wales make up a rather small percentage of the UK, so given that there are only English commentators, surely it is only logical that they are going to have an English viewpoint. Our pundits don't have this view only because we aren't good enough to get away with it. I don't necessarily care either way, but I had English flatmates at uni who suggested this to me, so I am presenting it on their behalf. |
