For some reason i have it in my head that he did and he also scored a couple of goals for us
Not 100% on this, but think one of our keepers scored at Rugby Park from a massive clearance. I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong .
Has to be Murray for me as he never let the side down. |
Tommy Walker was our reserve keeper in the early 80's, and was drafted into the side when Murray left to join Frank Connor at Berwick. He was a massive guy but that was due to a medical condition (not Ilovecakeitis), I think he was a youth internationalist. One of his early matches was an 8-1 defeat to Rangers in the league cup, a game I was very confused by as the commentator on the radio would come on and say Bobby Russel had scored again, I was unaware Rangers also had a Beastie.
Hamish was the man at that scored at Rugby Park, although I think Tommy Walker also scored v Burntisland in the Fife Cup. |

Murray McDermott for me, Seen Tommy Walker score against Cowdenbeath from a kick out, I'm sure it was a high scoring affair, 4-4 or 5-4 to us!! _________________ We dont need no stinking badges |

Raul was probably the most under-rated 'keeper and unsung hero of the division 2 championship-winning squad. Didn't costs us goals, and saved us countless points by pulling off some outstanding saves when needed. Had we held onto him instead of playing Gonzales. . . .
One of Scott Thomson's best saves has to be away to motherwell when he saved with his arm from a one-on-one 10 yards outside the box! And for some bizarre reason the ref missed it, and we went on to win 1-0. |

Tommy Walker was a Glenrothes boy. Went to Auchmuty High School and still lived in Glenrothes when playing for the Rovers. He was on the large side but didn't know this was due to a medical condition.
As others have said I think Hamish MacApline and Guido van de Kamp are serious ommissions in this poll from my time watching the Rovers.
Whoever voted for chris fahey. yir havin a laugh! _________________ I don't want to go to Idaho, I'd rather watch Christian Nade |

Bobby Ried as well followed by Murray I remember watching an evening game at Starks against Celtic they thumped us 7 0 I think but my outstanding memory was Bobby Picking the ball out of the net after Tommy Gemmell had scorched one from about 30 yards out the look on his face he knew it was going to be a long night.I also remember him playing at montrose when he was a director of the club a lot of the players had gone down with flu and he was still a registerd player so played in that game,I think we lost that one to _________________ Raith Rovers 7 Queen of the South 2 1967 those were the days |

In my living memory has to be Scotty, no question though some of the guys before my time may have been better than him.
I still think Scott Thomson between 1994-1996 was VERY underrated both by some of the fans watching him and also by his peers.
He saved us from taking an absolute tanking in some games in the Premier while also pulling off vital saves in other which won us points. How he didnt get a call up to the Scotland squad as a thrid choice keeper when the like of Stephen Woods and Mark Crossley were being quoted for it is beyond me.
Also his shabby treatment by Iain Munro towards the end of his time at Starks when he was replaced by that useless diddy Colin Scott was a disgrace. As a result it was no surprise he had made up his mind already to leave when Jimmy Nic returned, such was his disillusionment. |

yes older, much.much older bruv, but we dont all have long memorys like you, surprised you can remember that far back, but I suppose you were allowed to got to see the Rovers in the 1920's on your own?
Anyway, apart from Bobby Reid, no-one else has enough merit to be in that top ten, I only put Fahey in there bcos I knew he would get zilch votes!
Sorry Bobby if I remembered you, thats who you would have been in place of.
Anyway, as expected Murray roolz okay!

I remember going to arbroath with the team and Murray had the flu, Bobby hadn't played for a long time infact i think he had gave it up, the reserve keeper was also down with flu, so Bobby pulled the keepers top on and helped the team oot. it was freezing cold, I think he played well and i had the best pie and bovril ever... |

Jim Thorburn and Bobby Reid would top that list along with Murray and Hamish, the only thing that stopped Bobby being capped for Scotland was his height but what a brave shot stopper he was. |
