Passed away this morning.
Read on Thursday he was in palliative care.
Poignant, with Scotland on the cusp of qualifying for a major tournament.
Never met him, but a true gentleman by all accounts.[/list] _________________ Dougie Hill

Met him once at a Sport's Dinner event way back in the mid 1990's in Inverness.
Absolute gentleman. Made time for everyone, signed autographs willingly, mixed with folks at the tables chatting and answering questions after doing his illustrated talk about his time in football up to then.
I'm old enough to remember him as a young player and squad member (only used occasionally) of the Dundee title winning team of 1961-62 season.
Brother of "Unthinkable surely" Jock.😊. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

Craig was a guest at a Rock the Rovers dinner 9 years ago, it was great to meet and chat to him.
He was a perfect Gent all night and his anecdote about Dick Campbell was priceless.
Rest in peace Sir. _________________ Hope he's got plenty Rovers action to comment on tonight.... |

His passing will be observed at the upcoming Scotland v England game, I am sure.
Many memories of Scotland games of Craig 's era.
A standout must be , in Paris for the Brazil v Scotland World Cup opener and the cheer that went up when Craig ,in full Highland dress, lead out the Scotland team.
Met him once at an event in Dunfermline , after he had entertained everyone with good football yarns. A friendly and down to earth guy. |

When you look back, nothing good really happened between Craig Brown's time in charge of the National Team and Stevie Clark's arrival. All those Old Firm dreamers, back in the day, who thought his management was flawed, must look back now and see that he was one of the best managers in decades - and he was! Managers with much higher profiles, better connections and more sucessful playing careers behind them, were not a patch on Craig Brown's succeses! He was under-rated and never really got the credit that he truly deserved. He did so much with so little.
He struck me as being a larger-than-life and yet humble and unassuming character.
I worked with disadvataged youngsters. Although I never met him myself, we would arrange visits to Pitoddrie for the youngsters and Craig Brown was always a real gentleman and would spend a lot of time talking with those kids.
At least he lived to see Scotland come full-circle and finally get back some pride.
R.I.P. Craig - national treasure, Scottish legend! |

Broony was a great coach and man manager, he was however blessed with some good material to work with, not all who followed him had that luxury, some had a player or two but often we were looking at a rake of English championship players with barely a Premiership player (usually Daz Fletcher) to call upon.
Brown didn't have the Dalgliesh or Souness types to call upon but at least there was a few good guys and boy Did CB arrange them to their strengths, as I said a great coach.
Craig rates as the best Scotland manager I've seen after Stein, Steve Clark may yet eclipse him, hopefully he surpasses both.
RIP CB. _________________ Competitive goals: Vaughan 18, Easton 11, Hamilton 10, Smith 9, Stanton 7, Mullin 4, Connolly 3, O'Reilly 3, Rudden 3, S Brown 1, Dick 1, Gullan 1, Masson 1, Millen 1, Mitchell 1, Murray, Watson 1, OG's 1, |
