I apologise for the length of this post, but I really think it needs saying.
I wanted to post this BEFORE the Dundee United Game, because no matter what happens on Saturday, win, lose, or draw, we will have travelled so far as a Team and a Club this year I felt our new owners deserve so many plaudits for getting us even this far. Seven Games to go and it is still in our own hands as to whether we go up as Champions. Who amongst us would have thought we would be in this position now had they been asked at the beginning of the season? Not many, if indeed any at all!
All of this is down to the vision of our new owners. Their understanding of what was needed, formulating a plan, then delivering that plan.
In the beginning I was so sceptical about the new owners pedigree. I did not go as far as to call them, “The Village Idiots”, but I could not see how a few people in control of a club who were in eighth position, one division below us, could possibly help our cause. How wrong I, and I guess some of you reading this, was!
These guys had a vision and knew exactly how to make it work. I was focussed in getting it right on the pitch. However, they knew before that could happen we had to get it right in the state of our changing rooms and facilities in order to attract the right players to produce that sought after performance on the pitch. They brought in Ian Murray and many players who also recognised from the work going on behind the scenes that this was a club whose Board of Directors understood football, but most importantly, they understood football players. The Board stuck to their plan whilst having to dismiss the Village Idiot jibes on social media and their plans came to fruition. Their goal/target for 2023/2024 season was to get us back in the playoffs. With seven games to go they have all but delivered that plan and no matter what transpires on Saturday and beyond, they deserve all the praise we can muster for taking us from where we were, to where we currently are!
I would also praise John Sim for seeing through the con that was the Silver Bear offer. I think this refusal of what appeared to be a way out, shows he really had the future of Rovers at heart.
I know some Fans can only see anything other than promotion this year as a failure. However some of us have witnessed a lot of “it’s all gone horribly wrong” moments in the past and can see in reality our efforts this year have been up there alongside some of the best seasons we have witnessed as long term supporters. I saw my first Rovers’ game in 1959, and I can confidently say this current season would have to feature in my top three seasons, even for excitement alone.
We all Rovers fans owe this current Board a debt of gratitude for their vision, and our entertainment this season, because no one can say this has not been entertaining.
I said in a very early post, when I had doubts about the new owners, that I hoped I was wrong and would apologize if that were the case. Well New Owners:
I sincerely apologize for doubting in any way your ability to bring positive changes to my Football club. I WAS WRONG. YOU WERE RIGHT! I would also thank you for giving me one of the most exciting Seasons I have witnessed in my long years of following the Rovers.
Village Idiots ? Naw, how about Village Wise Men!
P.S. Please nobody show this apology to Mrs HR. She thinks me incapable of a sorry. |

Excellent post.
Very well articulated.
Hopefully many more will be in agreement with your thoughts.
Personally,I will be shocked and a little stunned should We actually win the league. That said, I would be so happy.
The new board have had an exceptional 1st season and come what may , my hope would be that they continue to raise standards ( and gates) and carry on with the excellent work next season, regardless of where we are .
Hopefully the “ NEW “ supporters will continue to back the team next season and bring back the feelings of joy which have escaped us for so long.
